Manage Usergroups (Roles)

Vivvo 4.1 introduced full role-based User manager, featuring the ability to create custom user groups and permissions, assign multiple groups per user and define specific privileges per each group. First, let's see how to create a new custom user group.

Choose Users from the main administrative menu and you'll see Add new group link under the Add new menu that leads to first step of usergroup creation wizard.

Step 1: How do you want to create a new role?

By choosing Duplicate option you'll be prompted for a name of the new group and it will be saved with predefined settings inherited from chosen group. You may edit those settings later.

If you choose Start from option from this drop-down menu you'll be taken to next steps of this wizard as you are creating new group but all group settings and permissions will be predefined so you may change only some of them.

You may also Start from scratch and create new usergroup with your own settings.

If second or third option is selected, you'll be taken to next step where you should choose writing, editing and reading privileges for individual categories and also options for allowing comment editing, administration area access and file upload.

Step 2: Main privileges

Key:

  • Group name - Choose the appropriate name for your new group
  • Read - Allow users that will belong to this group to read only articles from chosen category or categories
  • Write - Users from this usergroup will be able to write articles and assign to categories you choose for this field
  • Edit - Allow users only to edit articles that belong to categories you select here
  • Manage tags - Allow users to manage Topics & Tags
  • Manage trashbin - Allow access to trashbin
  • Moderate comments - You may allow users to edit comments other users posted on articles
  • Access admin - If you choose yes users from this group will have access to administration area and see only enabled sections
  • Manage files - Allow access to Files section of Administration Control Panel Interface
  • Upload - This is site wide setting and set this option to Yes if users should upload files and images

When you set all privileges click on Next button.

Step 3: Workflow

On the Step 3 you can define rules for changing status of an article. By doing this, you will assign that user group to set an article from Active to Headline, for example, or to move articles to Archive. Read more about article statuses in Add/edit article section.

You may use Ctrl button for multiple selection and also add unlimited number of rules using Add new rule link. You can also remove unnecessary rule by clicking on remove icon Remove workflow you'll see next to each rule.

Choose Next to go to next step.

Step 4: Frontend

On the Step 4 you can choose privileges for the usergrup on front-end, i.e. if you'll allow users who are part of this group to comment, vote and tag articles.

Choose Next and go to the final step.

Step 5: Plugins

Step 5 offers a list of installed plug-ins so you may simply choose None or All Plugins option, or select plug-in(s) with a mouseclick and Ctrl button (for multiple selection).

When your group privileges are all set you should click on Add button to save the group. You may click on Previous link on any step if you want to move backwards and do some changes before you choose to add a group.

Edit user group

If you want to apply changes later after the group has been added you may choose to edit the group. You may edit predefined Vivvo groups as well (except Admin).

To edit a group choose edit icon  next to the user group name. You can set all preferences exactly as you do when creating a usergroup.

Delete usergroup

You can simply delete a group by clicking icon Delete icon  next to the edit icon. You are not allowed to delete Admin, Member or Guest group and you'll notice locked icon  instead.
